1930's
In the late 1930’s, Robert A. Armistead’s son, Robert Theodore, came on board to work with his father and the business began to get larger. The company moved into a small shop on Sherman Avenue in Jersey City Heights. In 1952, Robert A. Armistead died in a tragic car accident and Robert Theodore took over the business. By this time, the business was doing mostly commercial, institutional, hospital, and process piping work. Some of its major clients included Colgate-Palmolive, Lipton Tea, Mueller Macaroni, and Standard Brands Foods. |

1970's
In 1958, Robert Theodore decided to change the name and the company was incorporated as The Armistead Corporation. As the business continued to grow the need for more space was obvious. The Armistead Corporation was re-located to a new 8,000 square foot facility in Kearny, NJ in 1971. At this time, Robert Theodore’s sons were working for him bringing on the third generation to work in the family business. |

Present Day
In 1983, Robert Theodore Armistead passed away and the business continued until November of 1987. In 1987, a shareholder’s deadlock caused The Armistead Corporation to dissolve. All of the corporation’s assets were split down the middle and two new companies were formed. M & S Armistead, Inc. is one of those companies. Today the fourth generation is heavily involved in all business activities. |
